10 Rules for Writing Effective Title of Paper

Writing effective title for a paper is so important. It due to there is a huge increase in the number of scientific papers. Typically, the reader will identify interesting papers by scanning the list of titles and authors from a journal’s table content. 1. Provide specific information in as few words as possible

2. Be informative and lucid

4. If the work concerns changes, the positive or negative direction of the effect or action should be specified

Bad title: Effect of amino acids on the sickling of erythrocytes containing hemoglobin S

Good title: Reversal effect of amino acids on the sickling of erythrocytes containing hemoglobin S

5. Avoid nonstandard abbreviations

Bad title: The CMS of SDS

Good title: The critical micelle concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate

6. Begin with an important term to give immediate impact

Bad title: Studies on the binding sites of Vicia villosa lectin

Good title: Vicia villosa lectin and its carbohydrate-binding site

7. Avoid subjective evaluations

Bad title: A novel method for determining the molecular weights of denatured proteins

Good title: A rapid method for determining the molecular weights of protein: intrinsic viscosities in 6 M guanidine hydrochloride

8. Avoid serial titles

For instance: Polypeptide IX. Helix-coil transition of poly(L-ornithine)

9. Check the instructions to authors for any other rules

10.  Provide a running title

Running title is usually less than fifty characters long including spacing. This is the briefer title that appears on each page of text, usually at the top. Here is the example:

Vicia villosa lectin and its carbohydrate-binding site

Running title: Lecithin-carbohydrate Complexes.
